Happy Saturday, Friends! This week John and I are on a mini mountain vacation. I actually wrote both my newsletter and blog while he drove us 3.5 hours into the mountains. Hooray for work AND play.
Here are my highlights this week:
I have so many books I am reading and not finishing! Fun fact about me, I am a #Starter (which means I am not a finisher). Have you read Gretchen Rubin’s book, The Four Tendencies? She takes you through the four motivation types - Obliger (me!), Upholder, Questioner (John!), and Rebel. You will learn not only your main type, but also many sub-types. Including how you shop (over- or under- buyer), how you tackle projects (Starter of Finisher) how you get work done and so much more. The book reinforces what you know about yourself and helps you have compassion for those who aren’t like you… err John!
I usually give you adaptable food recipes and Mocktail-Friendly cocktail recipes. But this week I am going rogue.
After 4 days of no alcohol (#soproud), I decided to make a pickle juice martini on Thursday. Look, it was the day before our vacation, and I felt like a treat drink. The recipe is very simple and not for the faint of heart (aka, if you don’t like GIN or PICKLES, don’t bother).
I found this from Five O’Clock Cocktails.
2 oz London Dry Gin (don’t use your fancy craft flowery gin here)
¼ oz Vermouth
½ oz Bubbies Pickle juice (use bubbies, it’s fermented, probiotic rich and has a delightful brine flavor)
Wet your cocktail/martini class and stick it in the freezer
Add all ingredients to a glass full of ice, and stir 20 times.
Strain into your chilled glass and garnish with a mini Bubbies pickle spear
This week I had you all vote on my next manicure through Instagram. Then I pulled a 180 on you and let my nail tech (@_nailbay) follow her creative bliss. I am so in love with the result. They are funky, bright and interesting. I see dinosaur eggs and John sees turtle shells. In fact, John told me he likes this manicure because he understands the science behind why the “blooming gel” creates the hexagon shape.
I found the best toothpaste. You may not know this, but I am on a continual search for healthy, natural and effective toothpaste. I obviously make John use all of them. If it were up to him, he would use Sensodine or Crest White. Sorry honey, I just can’t let you do that.
After some trial and error, I landed on two “Dana Approved” brands. John calls one “dirt paste” but he quite likes the other.
Earth Paste: this is made with bentonite clay and doesn’t foam at all. I quite like that. It cleans my teeth and it safe to swallow, though I don’t (#thatswhatshesaid). My favorite flavor is Cinnamon… I only ever want cinnamon toothpaste, to be honest.
Coral: this is the fanciest toothpaste ever! It is made with sea minerals, is gut probiotic friendly and completely safe to consume. They have a berry flavor which I like and would be lovely for your kiddos. AND, they just came out with a cinnamon flavor. If you buy directly from their website You can use the code SMILEMORE for 50% off your first order. If you are and Over buyer like me, you might just buy 10 boxes.
